In general, being a godparent means providing spiritual guidance and setting a good example.
All this means that godparents must want to be part of the child’s life.
They must help their godchild reach their goals, celebrate their achievements and support their parents at decisive moments.
What are the duties of a godparent?
Finding the right godparent for your child is easy. Finding someone who genuinely cares for the child, someone who has a moral and spiritual compass that will enable him to be a role model for the child during her lifetime, is the primary goal. A godparent also acts on behalf of the child’s parents.
What are the responsibilities of being a godmother?
A godmother’s basic role is, of course, protecting and caring for her godchild. However, godmothers have many more responsibilities and duties than just that.
Other duties of godmothers
- Showing an interest in your godchild’s education.
- Supporting the parents.
- Loving him unconditionally.
What do you need to be a godparent?
A Christian witness needs to be a baptized Christian. The godparent needs to be a Catholic at least 16 years old who has had the sacraments of baptism, reconciliation, holy communion, and confirmation. They can’t be the baby’s mother or father. The godparents must not be bound by canonical penalty.
